Capitalism also tends to generate a culture of consumerism and short-termism, which can lead to a lack of long-term planning and investments in the public good. Additionally, the concentration of wealth in the hands of a few can lead to a lack of political power for the majority of citizens. In recent years, the Covid-19 pandemic has highlighted the weaknesses of capitalism, particularly in terms of excessive inequality, the exploitation of labor, and inadequate safety nets for those affected by the crisis.
