The Washington Post is reporting today that the movement to recall Wisconsin Republican Senators and Representatives appears to have legs. Popular support has not flagged since the enactment into law of GOP Governor Scott Walker’s draconian budgetary cutbacks plus removal of government union’s negotiation rights. This is important because the focus of press attention has shifted elsewhere and getting recall signatures is not always a sure thing in Wisconsin. But already one Republican Senator likely faces a new election as the recall has garnered 45% more than enough signatures in half the time allotted for getting them. Several other Republican representatives are currently facing similar recall drives. The outcome is still not certain because a)the districts vary in their Republican vs Democrat split and b)the recall election results are likewise not obvious. But the Post’s Plum Line is notably surprised by the outcome so far.
