In a city blessed with self-declared supernatural beauty and host to a slightly damp but most civil and memorable Winter Olympics just a year ago, what was behind the Vancouver riots after the Canucks lost the Stanley Cup Finals to Boston?
Was this a case of professional nihilist and hooligans as advanced by the Vancouver police? Or was it the first signs of social breakdown as youth unemployment/underemployment hovers around 20% ? Or was it a Vancouver tradition, echoing back to the riots in 1994 when the Canucks also lost the Stanley Cup? Or was it middle case teen-agers just running amuck as the Toronto Globe and Mail sees evidence for? Or was it the condoned”heavy drinking” Entertainment zones? Ye Editor is inclined to agree with Martin Luther King Jr. – “Sometimes a riot is the ‘language of the unheard'”.
